The White Hell of Pitz Palu became Leni Riefenstahl's most widely accepted feature film. The project truly solidified her working relationship with director Arnold Fanck. The movie featured the exceptional stunt flying of Ernst Udet and since there would be many more sequences of story development, Fanck employed the assistance of another director, G.W. Pabst. Pabst would handle most of the non-athletic dramatic sequences of the film.
The film was so well thought of that Universal (who released the film through UFA in Germany) released it for American audiences.
