TIEFLAND (1945/1954)

Preceding even Triumph des Willens, Riefenstahl had imagined continuing her directorial career with a dramatic presentation of d'Albert's operetta, Tiefland.

History dictated that her progress as an artist would take a much different turn. However, released from the commitments made on her by the Third Reich after Olympia, Riefenstahl returned to this favored material.

It would lead to years of struggle and later be a source of worldwide condemnation.
