Riefenstahl's lengthiest production, filming started in 1940 but was delayed throughout the War. The film fell into Allied hands  where it remained for many years, confiscated due to her affiliations with the hierarchy of the Third Reich.

Re-edited by the French into a shambles, it was eventually returned to Riefenstahl  and  she completed it in 1954.

Tiefland, again a film that brings with it an unshakable shadow of controversy, with critics over the past five decades inaccurately accusing Riefenstahl of using Gypsies from a  Nazi "concentration camp" as extras.
