Initially taking up scuba diving as a relaxing sport, Riefenstahl eventually was drawn to the lure of underwater photography. Amazingly she had obtained her scuba diving certification being well past the age limit at 71.

She eventually published the Coral Gardens (1978) and at the age of eighty-eight release Wonders Under Water (1991) profiling dives at the Red Sea, Maldives, and the Indian Ocean.
Her photography and film efforts of the oceans has led to the upcoming release of an underwater documentary, due for release in late 2002.
